A Message From Sheriff Tim Burkhalter

Fellow citizens of Floyd County:

When elected four years ago, I made campaign promises which I have honored.

During my term in office I have:
  • Kept the sheriff's office under the approved budget during my entire term. (08 will not come in until December).
  • Reduced staff turnover by 20%, improving morale and staff involvement in the operation of the sheriff's office and saving the taxpayer thousands of dollars in hiring and training costs.
  • Involved the Office in the community with programs for seniors and youth.
  • Attained state certification, putting Floyd County in the top 10% of the state -- one of only ten sheriff's offices in the state to do so, out of 159 Georgia counties.

My Promise to you in the next 4 years is to continue my commitment to:

  • Responsible budget management
  • Keep turnover low by providing opportunities for all employees for professional improvement and advancement, reducing cost to taxpayer for new hires
  • Work with the county commission in a spirit of professionalism and courtesy
  • Keep the sheriff's office positive in our community, serving with pride and humility citizens of all ages
  • Support my staff and officers with dedication to the needs of every single employee, professionally and personally
  • Complete national accreditation process by making the Floyd County Sheriff's Office one of the best in the nation, proud and elite

In our fast paced highly technological society having a Sheriff serve the community with "just the basics" is simply not enough. We will continue to be proactive in seeking ways to improve our overall operations, to protect the public we serve and to give back to all segments of our community. We are called to a higher level of commitment to our community working to prevent crime, serve the needs of every citizen with concern and compassion, and to take every opportunity to make a difference. I will continue to make myself available to anyone in our community who needs our services. I promise you that when reelected I will continue to serve you with energy, dedication and vision. I ask for your vote of confidence in November. I believe I have the experience that really matters.
